Where is the Mountain And where is my cave And what is inside it Is it my home And will it hold me Through the black night Where can I stay Now that I have nothing Now that I know you I am waiting Where did you go And what did you say Little fireball Burn away Little bird Stow away You stopped singing Oh, here is my cave And there lies my grave Inside the Mountain Inside of Nowhere
2.
Mist 02:25
In the morning I feel motion around me I smell the fresh coffee in the air And I hear pigeons tapping on my window But I don't remember waking up It's still night But the mist appears In my Little Room My own world...slowly fading Into nothingness...
3.
The warm wood Begins to crack Exploding pieces of glass Dancing molecules Up above Passing clouds echo around Shards of flame Cutting the Sky Now this is a dream Life is a poem I emerge from the basement To say Yes, I dreamed And dust is dancing Don't worry This is a veil Here comes the river Bringing more flames The house now ashes Dancing in the wind Dark Mountain I hold nothing now x3 This is how life feels now Endlessly squinting at garbage Looking for meaning...
4.
This world still lives The mountains still breathe Seeing light disappear I walk around its roads and say: What about the songs we wrote? What about the lives we gave? What about the house we built? What about the bird nesting in my palms? What about the old spirit Howling in pain? This world is dying In plastic light...

I opened my eyes And then I closed them The sea of fog Hiding a black ship With red sails And you know what this means My body shapeless on grass The sky begins to roar And from the branches Your name insignificant If I open my mouth Some words might appear Quietly squinting my eyes Trying to see the Sky And all that echoes above me Now there is nothing Rocks and branches Hiding in the fog There is no Sky Only this echo The branches now a river I know what this means Life slowly drifting away Two black holes in an open field Consuming the ashes we leave behind The fog surrounds me For a moment I recalled Yes... I briefly lived
7.
I say let go of things And let them turn to dust And watch them blow away And know that you are flawed And prayer is empty wind And cold water comes From the stream at dusk Let go of the human Because until wind stops And until mountains billow The path to your heart Will go through A dark burning stove...
8.
The Breeze 05:04
There is a hill Tall and solid And on top The treasure that we wanted Old and stony I climb slowly To the cave Holding on to rocks But you, Breeze Try to blow me away I can't contain you Inside the cave There is no glimmer There is no door And there is no heat There's no singing There's no talking I see the palace But the bridge is unstable And the trail is long and rocky But inside the palace There's no way out The walls are tall and sturdy There are no rooms There are no doors Inside the palace No one is waiting for me
9.
Black Night 04:39
In the night There are no words In the night There are only songs In the night There is only this And then There's nothing In the night There is only howling wind In the night There is no world In the night Everyone has left me And now All I have In the night Are songs
10.
All of my human life Spent describing The shapes and sounds Floating around me Waiting for the Wind To say my name And for the night To take me back What am I really? Stones and Wind And what do I want? Watching the lights go down The town dissolves And what is left now? Internet and boulders Disillusioned and lonely I climb towards the hill I finally see it The eye of the Mountain And inside An Ocean unveiling An Ocean of Trees And a lone boat sailing I enter and wait The wailing air moves me around Holding a club and a shield I finally face you Mountain, you say: Abandon your animal form Here you are nothing A cloud in the sky Abandon all senses Enter the dark smoke Brief life in the void Now rise again I say: I am the twilight On the doorstep Mother of night I am the Destroyer Boulders collapsing And from inside Rivers begin to flow I am the Fire Billowing inside And the Sky Now a Volcano Rain of Ash Over the Town A storm of Fire Splitting the Sky Old Mountain We are one again Born inside The Ocean of Trees
11.
Mountain, now I see you I hold you in my fingers I walked to you In darkest night Mountain, I lay here In darkest night Through branches I see The town in light Mountain, now we are one And let my voice echo Through the Open Sky I say Universe, you are mine

about

Open Sky, the debut album of The Subterraneans. Songs about empty days. Mythologizing about mountains, rivers, death, and rebirth as a mythical force of nature. The soundscapes are built from quiet acoustic guitars, dreamlike synths, field recordings, wind and distorted guitars.
