The Sky Opens

from Open Sky by The Subterraneans

lyrics

I opened my eyes
And then I closed them
The sea of fog
Hiding a black ship
With red sails

And you know what this means
My body shapeless on grass
The sky begins to roar
And from the branches
Your name insignificant

If I open my mouth
Some words might appear
Quietly squinting my eyes
Trying to see the Sky
And all that echoes above me

Now there is nothing
Rocks and branches
Hiding in the fog
There is no Sky
Only this echo

The branches now a river
I know what this means
Life slowly drifting away
Two black holes in an open field
Consuming the ashes we leave behind

The fog surrounds me
For a moment
I recalled
Yes...
I briefly lived
